Work Study Management System
The Work Study Management System
(WSMS) is a legacy application that currently supports a majority
of the VBA Educations Work Study claims. Each of the four Education
Regional offices owns and operates a copy of the Visual Dbase
single-user, stand-alone WSMS application. Each version of the
application runs under windows platform, using Dbase 4 technology
and has its own database. CPS, and our partners were tasked to
migrate (re-Platform) the legacy WSMS application(s) into the VAs
to-be architecture by reverse engineering the existing WSMS
application code; consolidate the four databases into a single
database; and develop J2EE code and implement WSMS into the VA
corporate environment. Additional functionality is being developed
to support the new Chapter 1606 and 1607 requirements.
The Team provides full ADP life-cycle management support
services to WSMS, including:
IT Systems Development Services
The Team provides IT systems development services to the WSMS
project. The developers met with WSMS users and VA staff to define
and document requirements in a Functional Requirements Document and
Systems Architecture Document (SAD). The VETS Team prepared source
code in accordance with the FRD and SAD. The Team conducted code
reviews to ensure that complex modules/programs result in accurate,
executable code. The Team performed all build activities within the
guidelines and rules outlined in the VA Enterprise Architecture
Technical Reference Model/Standards Profile, and in accordance with
VBA architecture guidelines, which includes J2EE, BEA Weblogic,
Adobe LiveCycle and use of the VBA Corporate database (Oracle). The
web services have been developed to provide a secure, firewall
friendly interface that support the numerous system environments
used by the VA. All code is thoroughly tested prior to
implementation on a production system.
Automated Information Systems Design and Integration
Services
The Team provides automated information systems design and
integration services to the WSMS program office. Our services
include: Operations, integration, and maintenance support for WSMS
Web software applications, COTS and other software and data
extracts developed to support system interfaces; operations and
maintenance of the WSMS development and test servers; technical
support for systems interfaced with WSMS, including assistance in
developing interface agreements and technical guidance in
implementing the interfaces. We also recommend and implement
product improvements to the WSMS Web site and interfacing system
applications.
Programming Services
The Team provides programming support services to the web-based
WSMS project. Developers meet with users and VA staff to define and
document requirements. Development of the WSMS applications
utilizes J2EE, BEA Weblogic, and use of the VBA Corporate database
(Oracle). We also defined the interface specifications and
developed interfaces with numerous systems. Interfacing is provided
to external systems through the use of XML based web services. The
web services have been developed to provide a secure, firewall
friendly interface that support the numerous system environments
used by the VA. All code is thoroughly tested prior to
implementation on a production system.
